EBA says "look at the economic benefits of climate action not just the costs".
Speaking at one of the business meetings at CoP15, Fiona Wain, CEO of EBA called on negotiators "to take a holistic view of project and infrastructure costs."
Focusing on the capital expenditure cost of climate change action paints an unrealistically bleak picture about the cost of tackling climate change, she claimed. This is because the considerable commercial upside is not being considered:
• Reduced operational expenditure
• Avoided collateral damage costs (and non-cost impacts)
• Value-adding benefits and
• New commercial opportunities
